What We Do
Investigation
We investigate and document war crimes and human rights violations against civilians and prisoners of war, systematically collecting and submitting evidence to international investigative mechanisms.
Our members work on the ground in Myanmar, conducting in-depth, evidence-based research to uncover facts that are crucial for ensuring justice, accountability, and the protection of victims.
Publication
Our publications include reports, news releases, films, interviews, and statements that provide an undeniable record to expose human rights violations.
Advocacy
We believe our field investigations convey the voices of victims to decision-makers who have the ability to drive change and improve the human rights landscape. We share our documentation and reports with local and international human rights organizations, independent international mechanisms, national institutions in Myanmar, United Nations organizations, foreign governments and embassies, and other key stakeholders.
Workshop and Training
Knowledge of human rights law, international humanitarian law (IHL), and the protection of civilian populations is crucial in preventing atrocities.
We facilitate workshops in the communities where we operate, providing a space for individuals to share their experiences and connect them with international organizations that can help defend their rights and seek justice.
Our Story
BWCI was founded in October 2023, when we began investigating war crimes in Karenni (also known as Kayah) State in Myanmar. Prior to that, our founding members, who are journalists and researchers, had been based in the war zone of Karenni.
As war journalists, we covered human rights issues, conflict, and war, and we shared our work with international organizations such as the IIMM and UN agencies.
Through this experience, we realized that our work could contribute to seeking justice for our society and holding perpetrators accountable. This insight led us to form this organization, ensuring that our efforts would have a greater impact.
We are an independent and impartial non-governmental organization, upholds human rights framework and research ethics.
Our team comprises seasoned professionals, including researchers and experienced journalists, dedicated to conducting field research and reporting from the heart of the conflict zones. Collectively, they boast over two years of experience in conflict reporting, each contributing uniquely to our mission.
